Marathon training long run

Today’s long run was 26.31km – that’s about 16.5 miles. I left home at 8am and jogged to meet Pete at 8:15am. We then ran up to the top of The Common to meet Irene before heading over to Lordswood. The original plan was to meet Kirsty. She had consumed a little too much ‘pink wine’ at a wedding reception...

Reverse duathlon in the Forest

A few weeks ago as part of my marathon training, I ran out to Brockenhurst parkrun. It was a hot run and I don’t especially like running along the main road (does anyone?!) I also prefer to run with company. It’s a good mental challenge to do a long run on my own every once in a while. Mob match...

The Ironman that never was.

This morning, I felt shattered, so I decided not to get up and go for a swim. Then I made the radical decision to ignore my schedule entirely, so instead of rescheduling my swim for after work, I decided to have a rest day. This is quite unlike me, but I felt that my body needed a break. Anyway, since...

Keeping up my good habits

My third consecutive day of blogging – not quite as impressive as Ron Hill’s running streak, but it’s a start. Today I did some ankling and hurdling… Ankling at Run Camp After finishing blogging late last night, I managed to pack my lunch, sort out my clothes etc etc in order to be able to cycle to Run Camp this...

“Sleep-deprived triathletes face an uphill battle”

Sleep-deprived triathletes face an uphill battle is the title of an article I read today. However, despite agreeing fully with its contents, here I am. It’s five past eleven and I’m blogging about my training because I promised I’d keep on track for a week!!! I really should have more sleep or rest on a daily basis! The importance of rest...

So, how’s it going?

It’s been a long time since I last blogged, which means that I feel guilty… And when I feel guilty, I tend to put off blogging, and so the spiral continues 🙁 As penance, I’m going to try to post something every day for the next week, so that you can catch up with what I’m doing. This morning, I...

I did it, I did it, I did it!!! My first aquathlon

I completed an aquathlon at Lakeside tonight! Getting ready for my first aquathlon My preparations started last night, when I tried to gather together all of my possessions. I didn’t think I’d need much stuff, but my list was longer than I anticipated when I started writing it. This morning, I decided to replace the laces in my favourite trainers...

My coaching course, a bike fit and swimming in the lake finally improves…

This week has been so exciting so far, and it just keeps getting better. Coach in Running Fitness At the weekend, Stu and I did the first two days of our Coach in Running Fitness course. I learned some really interesting things but was also really frustrated by the classroom delivery. I was good to learn about new sources of...

Getting back on track

I’ve been pretty slack about blogging (and my diet) recently. This is because I’ve been busy doing a lot of other stuff, including spending hours trying to work out a training schedule. Here is my plan on Google drive: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlqC4nvaAOYXdDNRalN4UjZQUnZWYmNqdlo2Z1Q0cFE&usp=sharing I was told to add in some rest. The plan isn’t perfect yet, but I’ve managed to squeeze in a...

Update on my swimming

🙁 I’ve been away from my blog for a long time, without any valid reason. I fell behind and then couldn’t work out how to get back to it, so I’m hoping that I’ll be able to catch up a little this week. I’ve decided to kick this off with a post about my swimming. I completed my first course...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
