Building up to my first multi-sport event

Earlier, I wrote a long and detailed post about my training this week, but WordPress ate it and I don’t feel inclined to write it all again, so I’m just going to do a quick summary: I managed to get in some good swimming sessions this week and think I’ve now worked out how to time my breathing so that...

Salisbury 10 Mile

At the moment, I’m really struggling to find time to write this blog, but maybe that’s a good thing as it means that I’m busy organising my life and training. The key event for me at the weekend was Salisbury 10 – a local 10 mile race that is part of the Hampshire Road Race League. 10 miles is the...

Heartbreak and my first swimming lesson

Well, it’s been a few days since I last posted as I’ve been so busy. Heartbreak Half The big event on my birthday was the Heartbreak Half – a 14 mile race out in the New Forest that is known for its steep hills. The course had been altered slightly from last year’s route, but that didn’t make it any...

Celebrating my last day of being 34 at parkrun

I got to bed early last night and woke up feeling refreshed this morning. I had my usual porridge for breakfast and got dressed for parkrun. As it would be Kirsty’s 50th run, I decided to wear my parkrun 50 club t-shirt to help motivate her. I then had to decide which shoes to wear. Having worn ‘my’ Brooks Cadence...

Rest day or laziness?

.After two late nights in a row, I really didn’t want to get out of bed on Wednesday morning. My legs were feeling really tired. I was concerned by the size of our laundry pile and the general untidiness of the house. Another issue was the fact that I hadn’t got all of my stuff (lunch, clothes etc.) ready on...

34 years and 360 days…

It was so hard to get out of bed this morning to go to Run Camp. I really wanted to have a lie in, but I also knew that it was the day of our time trial, so I forced myself to get up. If I’m ever going to fit in Ironman training, I’m going to have to give up...

Chocolate brownie porridge

I’ve prepared one of my favourite porridges for breakfast tomorrow: chocolate brownie porridge. It’s a very simple recipe. It can be prepared in advance if you’re time-pressed in the morning. Ingredients 30g porridge oats 10g walnut halves 1 tsp cocoa powder chopped dates or raisins water How to make chocolate brownie porridge Place the ingredients into a microwavable bowl. Microwave...

Run Leading… on a bike

This evening I tried Run Leading on a bike for the first time. I thought it would be sensible to give my legs a break after yesterday’s 23 miles. It was actually quite an enjoyable experience. The hill on Southampton Common that I absolutely hate when I’m doing parkrun is much more manageable on a bike going at a runner’s...

So how did Bramley go?

As Bramley 20 didn’t start until 10:30am, I was able to get up relatively late for a race day. This was good as I didn’t get to bed until 11:30pm the night before, which is very late for me. I decided to have porridge for breakfast but ran out of time to make carrot cake porridge. In the end,  I...

Carrot cake porridge recipe

Carrot cake porridge is my favourite pre-race breakfast. It tastes delicious and gives me plenty of energy, so I thought I’d share my recipe with you: 30g porridge oats 1 finely grated carrot 1 coarsely grated apple lots of cinnamon pinch of nutmeg pinch of ground ginger 10g ground almonds 15g walnuts 10g sultanas or raisins vanilla extract agave nectar...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
