Embrace Sports Algarve Triathlon Holiday – Day 5

This was the most stressful day of the holiday for me. I know it was supposed to be a fun challenge, but I found the hill challenge very difficult in January. As I had become increasingly aware of my incompetence on a bike, I just didn’t think that I had the ability to repeatedly cycle up a very steep hill....

Embrace Sports Algarve Triathlon Holiday – Day 4

On Wednesday evening we got all of our stuff ready as we knew that we would have an early start on Thursday. I was looking forward to the swim but was nervous about the long ride to Aljezur. Fortunately, some humour sneaked onto the schedule boards: The runners weren’t sure whether they would really have to clean our bikes, but...

Embrace Sports Algarve Triathlon Holiday – Day 3

I woke early on Monday morning, although it was nice to know that we had a relatively late start. I felt mixed emotions about what we would be doing: a trail run. Looking back to January I knew that the trail run consisted of 5-mile loops. Each runner could choose to do as many or as few as they wanted...

Embrace Sports Algarve Triathlon Holiday – Day 2

We were up early for our first full day on holiday as we had to be ready to leave the Giramar by 6:45am. Fortunately, we knew that there would be enough time to eat on our return before heading out for a bike ride (including the Punisher), so I didn’t have to worry about preparing porridge. We had been told...

Embrace Sports Algarve Triathlon Holiday – Day 1

It was an early start to the holiday with a 5:45 wake up, a quick shower and porridge before getting on the road by 7am. As usual, I felt nervous about would be coming up, and also worried that I would have forgotten something. I have a massive multipage Google spreadsheet with packing lists for all occasions that I modify...

Planning for 2014

With only 10 weeks left in 2013, I thought I should start planning for next year. My five-year plan included the following for next year: 2014 1600m swim 63-mile sportive (IoW) Marathon Sprint I haven’t booked a 1600m swim yet, but I may do Bournemouth Pier to Pier swim in July 2014. For cycling, I may do the Wiggle All...

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Thank you to Sandra (A Promise to Dad) for nominating me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award! I’ve never had much of a trophy cabinet, so it was a real thrill to find out 🙂 I’ve been following Sandra’s blog for a few months now – I find it completely fascinating that someone who’s a different age from...

Back on top of my blog

I’ve been neglecting my blog recently, as I’ve been really busy, so I’m hoping to catch up with a few posts this weekend. I’ve closed my Facebook account, so I’m hoping that will give me some more free time. However, it does mean that I’m likely to have fewer photos from events that friends have shared with me. Joining some...

HOWSC 100 Sprint triathlon

The HOWSC 100 triathlon took place today at Hampshire Open Water Sports Centre in Fordingbridge, which is about a 30-minute drive away from where I live. The entry was included as part of the triathlon training camp that Stuart and I did back in mid-June. (I don’t think I blogged about it, but it was a great weekend that was...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
