This week I did something that broke my heart

[written 6th May 2016] I found out that I was pregnant a while ago, but decided not to cancel all of my race entries immediately, in case something went wrong. However, Ironman has strict deadlines relating to withdrawing from races and refunds. In order to receive a 50% refund (the maximum possible), I had to withdraw from Ironman Weymouth 70.3...

Swimming and running… and not a lot of cycling

The last couple of weeks have been tough. I’ve been busy at work and busy at home, which hasn’t given me a lot of downtime. I’ve been swimming as much as I can, have visited the Isle of Wight and completed Fareham parkrun. Swimming I’ve managed to make the last couple of Monday night swims with Southampton Tri Club and...

Monday Morning Motivation – I also know the off-side rule

Too often we make assumptions about what people can/cannot do and what they might know. I’ve experienced this when visiting bike shops. All too often the male sales assistant will patronise me and assume that I know nothing about bikes. I might not be an expert, but you can guarantee that I’ll have read up on what I want. Some...

Friday Five – 5 simple post-workout snacks

If I’ve done a workout, but it’s a while before my next meal, I often have a snack, just to take the edge off my hunger. (This is part of my nutrition strategy!) I quite like to have a protein shake or some yoghurt with protein powder, but sometimes, I fancy something different. Here are some of my favourite post-workout...

Weightloss and running

In the last week, I’ve seen loads of adverts on Facebook about losing weight through running. Whilst I believe that starting to run can help to kickstart weight loss for many people, it’s not usually a long-term solution for weight loss… if it were then I’d be wasting away by now! However, that doesn’t mean that running and weight loss...

In the Buff…

Although I own a car, I rarely drive it as most of the places that I want to go to are an easy cycle commute from my house. Every day, I cycle to work. Although it’s only a couple of miles, it’s quite a good workout as it is hilly. However, I need to be prepared for all weather, which...

Miles of Smiles

The last couple of weeks have been quite busy. Last Monday, I went to STC swimming training as usual. There were quite a lot of us in the session and we had some long sets to swim. I’ve not done enough swimming this year and I’m finding it quite challenging, but I managed to get 2000m done within the hour....

Monday Morning Motivation – Feeling like a fox

‘Sweating like a pig, feeling like a fox’ is a poster in the ‘This Girl Can’ series. You don’t have to look good to feel good! Unfortunately, society expects women to prize their physical appearance over the ability to take on physical challenges. This problem is brilliantly exemplified by this video: Do you prize your physical appearance over your physical...

parkrunning between April and June 2016

I didn’t do a lot of blogging between April and June because I was really busy and also very tired… but I did manage to fit in some parkruns. The 200th event at Southampton parkrun was on 9th April. Kim and many of my other friends were wearing fancy dress… but I wanted to wear my SOAS kit. Kim and...

Thursday Tri Reads – Triathlon Plus July 2016 issue

I only started reading Triathlon Plus earlier this year. I don’t often indulge in magazines, but I like to keep up to date with triathlon news and seem to spend a lot of time in doctors waiting rooms these days, so it’s perfect for me. One of the articles that I particularly enjoyed is ‘Revitalise your diet’. I’m always looking...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
