Whatever floats your oats

This week’s blogger interview is with Emily from Whatever Floats Your Oats. (Blog no longer available in 2019). I’ve been reading Emily’s blog for a while and thought you might like it. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? I grew up in California but have spent the...

Monday Morning Motivation – 20 Tiny thoughts crushing your biggest dreams

20 Tiny thoughts crushing your biggest dreams is one of the most inspirational blog posts that I’ve read recently. When I was at an Embrace Sports triathlon training camp last year, one of the thoughts that Graeme shared with me was not to allow my races be dominated by my own self-limiting beliefs. In the aforementioned blog post, March Chernoff...

Eastleigh Open Water Tri – my first open water tri of the season

Firstly, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who is following my blog – I started it as a personal record of my progress, so I am delighted that I’ve now got over 800 followers (I hit 802 today)! Thank you so much – it’s such an honour to hear from people who say that I’ve inspired...

Spirit of the Triathlon?

Would you like to see a feature-length documentary on the inspiring journeys of six athletes preparing for Challenge Roth? I know I would, as I loved Spirit of the Marathon, which is made by the team behind this venture. They’re attempting to crowd-source funding for it, and released some information within the last fortnight. Indiegogo gives more details. triathlete magazine...

I wasn’t last, even though there was some swimming involved!

Although I’m still tired from last Sunday’s swim, I had already entered tonight’s aquathlon (hosted by the lovely TryTri chaps), so I figured that I’d better just get on with it. We left home a bit late, and I didn’t do a great job of getting myself organised. I thought that I had picked up everything necessary for transition, but...

Some extra recovery followed by two days of intervals

After my long swim on Sunday, I was meant to go swimming with the Tri Club on Monday night… however, I had a fun night out planned with some former work colleagues. I tried to find a way to fit a swim in, but I would have had to get up very early to do it before work, and my...

31 minutes a km! My first long sea swim

On Sunday morning, I went down to Bowleaze Cove with Stu, Suzanne and Roelie for the first of this year’s Big Cove sea swims. There are two distances on offer for the sea swim: 1.5 miles and 3 miles. I’d looked up information about previous events online. In the past couple of years, the number of entrants has fluctuated between...

Monday Morning Motivation – do you live in the moment?

Do you live in the moment? There will be a day when I can no longer do this. That day is not today. Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present. Too often I worry about training sessions that have not got well. I also spend time thinking about future training sessions and whether I’ll...

Rest and reading

It’s been a very hot day and I’ve been working hard, so I’m grateful that it’s also a scheduled rest day. Some of the great things that I’ve been reading today include Darlene’s blog My first 5k and more. In her latest blog post, she explains about the Mizuno Baton, which is a completely amazing charity running scheme. It’s such...

Fresh veggies and super swimming

Happy Fresh Veggies Day! How many portions of veg do you eat every day? Five? Seven? Ten? …and, no, potatoes don’t count and neither does wine!!! Nutritionists agree that when it comes to fresh fruit and vegetables, most of us just aren’t getting enough. How about going vegetarian for a day to celebrate this event? (It’s also Fudge Day, but...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
