Monday Morning Motivation – Heart (the pregame speech)

I love this pregame speech. Every once in a while, it’s good to take a look inside. A good hard look. Go ahead. Peel back the shell and look at your heart. What do you see? Look inside that body of yours. You feel its strength? Trust me, it’s there. It’s hidden behind fear, hesitation and the walls which others erect...

Fit and fun – the link between happiness and exercise

The information in this infographic about happiness and exercise is fascinating (N.B. Click on it if you want to view a larger version): Do you set ‘Goldilocks goals’? This article from Runner’s World on What time do people run? is absolutely fascinating. I tend to run in the evenings during the week unless I’ve planned to go to Run Camp,...

18 months into my 5 year challenge… what have I achieved?

18 months ago, I laid out my plans. A year ago, I reported back on my progress. So it’s now time to check up on whether I’ve made any progress in the last year. Here’s a recap of my goals. Year Swimming Cycling Running Triathlon 2013 800m swim 42k cycletta or 82k Marathon Novice – Newbury 2014 1600m swim 63-mile...

Weymouth half – the run

I had mixed feelings as I headed out onto the run. I knew that I could complete the distance as I’ve run further before. My longest run in training had only been 8 miles, so I was a little daunted. Getting a boost from seeing friends I had only just turned right to head out on the first half lap...

Monday Morning Motivation – no quitting!

Do you agree? Does this motivate you? Who decides what counts? In my opinion, we all have different goals, but it’s important to aim high. I can think of some people who would struggle to run 100m, so that would be a legitimate goal for them. Why is 5k important? I prefer this: Sometimes, I wonder whether I will ever...

Weymouth Half – The bike (and T2)

T2 was my best discipline at Weymouth Half. After grabbing my bag and putting on my helmet, it was time to put on my race belt and ride. I’d decided to put my shoes on before getting to my bike. There was a slightly twisty section before getting out onto the road, and I didn’t want to embarrass myself in...

Weymouth Half – the swim (and T1)

We got up stupidly early fort Weymouth Half as triathlons always start before sane people are awake. Stu made an instant porridge, whereas I ate some cold blueberry protein porridge that I had made the day before. It didn’t taste especially delicious as it was so cold, but I thought it was safer to stick to tried and tested. I...

Preparation for Weymouth Half

The weekend of Weymouth Half was finally here. Stu and I finished packing and drove down to Weymouth, knowing that Liz and Suzanne were also on their way. We’d booked a hotel room in Dorchester, which is a 10-minute drive away. We thought it would be quieter there and it was also quite a bit cheaper. The traffic on the...

Monday Morning Motivation – super marathoner Annette Fredskov

Annette Fredskov is a hugely inspirational woman. On being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she decided to fight back by running 366 marathons in 365 days. You can read about Annette’s story here: Annette Fredskov: A marathon a day made me stronger. Another version of Annette’s story is available here: Danish woman runs 366 marathons in 365 days and says it has...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
