Getting back on my bike

It was back to work today, which meant that I had to get back on my (hybrid) bike. I had thought that it would be easier than riding my road bike, but, unfortunately, I had forgotten how heavy my work bike is. Just the 3.5-mile journey to work was enough to bring tears to my eyes 🙁 This afternoon, I...

Oooh – pretty pictures

As I mentioned at the weekend, I’ve decided not to rely on my own slightly crazy planning to get me through Challenge Weymouth. I’ve engaged Ant Gritton as my coach. Using Training Peaks One of the first tasks that Ant set was to import my data from Garmin Connect to Training Peaks. I’m usually pretty good with computers, but this...

I’m back, but not quite where I wanted to be.

I’m back, but I’m broken. 🙁 I sustained a few injuries on last week’s holiday. Training has been put on hold for a week, in the hope that I recover quickly. I’ve also suffered a real crisis of confidence about whether I’ll be able to complete the events that I’ve entered. This setback means that I’ve had to rethink my...

Day 8 of Pyrenees Tri Camp with Embrace Sports

It was sad that it was the last day of our holiday. I was also feeling exhausted through the exercise and lack of sleep. I felt a strange mix of not wanting the holiday to end combined with a desire to curl up in my own bed and sleep for a week. The final activity was a lake swim. I...

Day 7 of Pyrenees Tri Camp with Embrace Sports

Wednesday was the final big day of our holiday with a long and difficult bike ride up Col de Peyresourde planned. I was feeling incredibly nervous about the day as I hadn’t spoken to the coaches and had no idea what the plan was. I kept trying to tell myself not to worry and that there would be a plan....

Day 6 of Pyrenees Tri Camp with Embrace Sports

Tuesday started with a ‘fun’ aquathlon. Before my injuries, I had hoped that I might not be last or at least that I might not be last out of the water and that this would spur me on to run as hard as possible, but my painful arm put paid to that. Originally, the aquathlon was going to be a...

Day 5 of Pyrenees Tri Camp with Embrace Sports

Day five had been labelled as ‘Mystery Monday’ – essentially it was a chance to change plan according to the weather, so it was decided that we would tackle Col D’Aspin. The day started with a clear sky, so I was keen to get my trainers on. Unfortunately, I was struggling to run because of my bruised leg and the...

Day 4 of Pyrenees Tri Camp with Embrace Sports – the day when I crashed my bike

Day 4 started with a swim in the lake. We started off with some drills: crocodile eyes sighting raised head sighting for when there are waves turn onto back to view others 90 degree turns The image below shows us practising turning around some markers (Graeme and Alan). Unfortunately, the continuing pain in my arm/shoulder meant that I found it...

Day 3 of Pyrenees Tri Camp with Embrace Sports

There was a slight change to the original schedule. We had already visited the sports shop, so the core class was moved to Saturday. After eating some porridge, some of the group decided to cycle to the lake. I was still injured, so I made the sensible decision to go to the lake in the minibus and I didn’t swim...

Day 2 of Pyrenees Tri Camp with Embrace Sports

When we woke up on Friday, the weather wasn’t what any of us had hoped it would be. The skies were grey and cloudy and there was rain beating down. We had a hearty breakfast of porridge and then layered up before heading out. The plan was to cycle to Col d’Aspin via Col de Coupe as part of a...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
