Festive parkruns and my first goal of 2016

It’s been a busy festive season and I haven’t been too bothered about training regularly, but I have fitted in quite a few parkruns. My first parkrun of the holidays was at Southampton on Christmas Day. I took it as an opportunity to wear my new SOAS top (even if it is really a cycling jersey): At the event, I...

Friday Five – Five ways to measure your running success

Many of us measure our running success with numbers – most often, our personal bests. Improving your time over a measured distance is the easiest way of recognising success, but it’s not easy to get a PB and it can be demotivating when you keep training and trying, but that PB eludes you. However, it’s not to only way to...

Is ‘nature’ right for you?

At 7am this morning, I got up to go for a run. That’s not particularly early, but in the middle of my holidays, it certainly felt like it. I had a bowl of porridge for breakfast and then headed out at 7:50am to meet my friend Teri. I stepped out of the door and started to wonder whether I had...

What are your goals and dreams?

I think it’s important to have goals and dreams in life. The name of my blog clearly explains my goal: Fat Girl to Ironman I am planning to complete an iron distance triathlon… and am still hoping to lose a few more pounds along the way. I also have many dreams. They’re not quite goals yet as I haven’t planned...

What’s your favourite post training meal?

After long/important races I generally don’t feel like eating much, although after I’ve showered and had a nap I’m usually tempted by treat food, such as a pizza or ice-cream. However, I try not to indulge in those items when I’m training. After training, I try to ensure that I get enough protein, which isn’t always easy as I’m a...

My 2015 race/event awards

This year has been hectic. I’ve taken part in a wider range of events than in any previous year. I’ve completed single and multisport events and gone further and faster than previously. Fuelled by nature

I was recently given the opportunity to try: which is described as “real food nutrition for exercise, recovery, health and weight loss”. The suggested times to drink this ‘meal in a glass’ are: Breakfast – it’s fast and filling Lunch – as a natural alternative to meal replacement products Pre exercise – fuel your workout two hours before with natural...

So much SOAS kit!

I’m so excited that Christmas is almost here – I’ve only got one day left at work before my holiday begins 😀 Christmas at home It’s going to be an unusual Christmas for me this year. It’s my first one in my new home and my mum is on the other side of the world holidaying with my brother and...

Is procrastination bad?

Are you a procrastinator? Is it a habit that you want to deal with in 2016? In the video, the tour guide explains, “This is where we put our good intentions that never fully materialise” and as the adage goes, ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions’. The visitors also enter a room of gym memberships that were...

Revisiting my goals for 2015

At the end of December 2014, I set out my goals for 2015, so I thought it was time for me to revisit them. Goal 1: I am going to eat healthy food for 20/21 meals and assess my progress at the end of 100 days (14th April). I hope that I will lose 14lbs (6.5kg) in that time. I...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
