Monday Morning Motivation – Sweating like a pig

If the main purpose of exercising is having fun and keeping fit, what does it matter what you look like?

Southampton Half Marathon 2016

Although my original plan has been for Southampton Half Marathon to be one of my A-races for 2016, the chest infection that I got earlier in the year put paid to that plan. When I was offered the chance to pace sub 2:20, I was really excited. I loved pacing at Eastleigh 10k and was confident that I could support...

Ready to Race?

It feels like I’ve been so busy training recently that I’ve not had as much time as usual to blog. I mentioned back in January that I’ve signed up for Solent Athlete’s Ready to Race course, which includes two track sessions a week and a self-led long run at the weekend (and some strength and conditioning work at home). What...

I’ve got the Power

It’s the 30th anniversary of Powerbar, so I was sent some new products to try: Energize muffins and Energize bars. Cute packaging As soon as the PowerBar box arrived, I got excited – how cool is the product packaging?! The products were all tucked inside the oven! New kitchen Sadly, I won’t be able to try the PowerBar muffins for...

Monday Morning Motivation – Hot and not bothered

Hot and not bothered is the slogan of a recent This Girl Can advert: It’s a play on the phrase ‘hot and bothered’, meaning irritated or annoyed. In conclusion, It’s a great advert as it tackles one of the main reasons why some women do not participate in sporting activities. It emphasises that taking part in exercise is more important than worrying...

Monday Morning Motivation – Talk to the backhand

Talk to the backhand is a great advert that is part of the This Girl Can campaign. As with most of the adverts in this series, it has a double meaning. ‘Talk to the hand, ’cause the face ain’t listening’ means someone will not listen to what you’re saying. The word ‘backhand’ refers to the tennis stroke as the woman in the...

A girl can never have enough shoes!

For my birthday, my brother-in-law and his wife gave me a Sweatshop voucher. I also had another Sweatshop voucher and a 25% discount card, so I decided to invest in a new pair of shoes. I’ve been OK wearing my New Balance shoes, but I just don’t like them as much as the Brooks Vapors. I’ve worn that model for...

Learning to climb

Back in January, I decided that I should say ‘yes’ more often to things that scare me, so when Roger asked whether anyone was interested in doing a beginners climbing course, I immediately expressed my interest. There was only a slight problem – I am absolutely terrified of heights. By the time that March rolled around, 8 people had decided...

Workout Wednesday – Bouncing back!

Zach’s on a trampoline in this week’s Workout Wednesday. “Instead of being down on yourself, look up to someone else!” If Zach’s words haven’t motivated you (or at least made you laugh), maybe his actions have. There are various indoor trampoline parks in the UK: Gravity Force – Camberley, Basildon, Sunderland, St Albans Bounce – Milton Keynes Oxygen Freejumping –...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
