Monday Morning Motivation: Raha Moharrak

As it was International Women’s Day yesterday, I thought I’d share an inspirational story about a female first. Raha Moharrak was the first woman from Saudi Arabia to climb the Seven Summits and Mount Everest. She climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Vinson, Mount Elbrus, Aconcagua, Kala Pattar, Pico de Orizaba, Iztaccihuatl and Mount Everest all within a year. On May 18th...

My Brighton Run2Music training schedule

I’m really looking forward to Brighton Run2Music. It takes place at the end of May, so it’s quite late in the season for a half marathon. I think that’s fantastic as it gives me longer to prepare for it. I’ve planned my own Brighton Run2Music training schedule. I’m planning to continue running in my lunch break on Tuesdays and Thursdays...

My parkrun A-Z: Itchen Valley Country parkrun

My plan on Saturday had been to go to Southampton parkrun to celebrate its 400th event. Stuart was going to do a long run that finished on The Common and I was going to drive there with M. We had a busy weekend planned, so it fitted nicely into our schedule. However, we hadn’t allowed for the weather. When Pete...

Monday Morning Motivation: Josephine Ocaka

This week’s Monday Morning Motivation is courtesy of Josephine Ocaka. Josephine is a key member of the Ugandan Crew who I met at the parkrun Ambassadors Conference. They run at Burgess parkrun. This video relates to International Women’s Day which is coming up on Sunday. Josephine Ocaka transcript A lot of people experience a lot of traumatic, should I say,...

February 2020 update

So far 2020 feels like the year when it won’t stop raining. This has had a knock-on effect on my desire to go out and exercise especially during my lunch break. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to see that I exercised more in February 2020 than I had in January. Long run Friday I had a look at my training...

Avenue of Pain and a long run

I’ve had a busy week of running this week. The highlights were the Avenue of Pain, lunchtime runs, a long run and a parkrun. On Monday, I made it out to another training session with Lordshill. We did the ‘Avenue of Pain’, a training session that Stu wrote back when we were coaching. It involves running up and down a...

Staying safe whilst running

I asked a range of runners online for their top tips for staying safe whilst running. The usefulness of the advice they gave depends on your personal circumstances and where you live. I’m grateful that in the UK, no-one suggested carrying a gun for personal protection. I’m also grateful that I’ve never had to consider what I’d do if I...

Monday Morning Motivation: Dhruvil Patel

I chose Dhruvil Patel as this week’s Monday Morning Motivation because of the phenomenal progress that he has made as a runner over the last few years. In his words: Improvement in running is available to anybody who is willing to put in the work day in and day out! Dhruvil Patel, 21/04/19 On April 19th 2019, Patel set a...

If we were having coffee…

If we were having coffee, I’d ask for a large hot chocolate as I don’t like coffee. Also, I object to paying obscene amounts of money for a cup of tea. I’d ask how 2020 was going for you so far. Then, because I’m a talker, I’d fill the next hour with conversation. …I’d talk to you about parkrun volunteering...

Getting serious about my challenges for 2020

Last year I found it hard to balance everything in my life. There was never enough time for sleep, so training took a back seat and I didn’t take on many challenges. I’m now more determined than ever to get my training back on track, so I’ve been planning a full events calendar to keep me motivated. Here’s what I’m...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
