Monday Morning Motivation – the underdog

Here’s the thing that makes life so interesting. The theory of evolution claims that only the strong shall survive. Maybe so…maybe so…But the theory of competition says just because they’re the strong, doesn’t mean they can’t get their asses kicked. That’s right. See what every long shot, come-from-behind underdog will tell you is this: the other guy may in fact...

My first DNF and I’m OK about it

Everything seems to have been going so well recently. My running has been going well, I achieved a new PB for distance swimming and I’m starting to work with a nutrition coach, so I’ve been feeling positive. However, my home is a bit chaotic as I’ve not kept on top of the housework. I’m so grateful that this is a...

My longest ever swim (and some lake swimming)

It has been such a busy week, with lake swimming, cross fit and running so I think tomorrow may be a rest day. Cross fit On Monday morning, I had a cross fit session with SUTRI for the first time in a few weeks. There were only 4 of us there and Olly made it quite a relaxed session, with...

Monday Morning Motivation – Prefontaine

One of my running heroes is Steve Prefontaine: Pre was known for going out hard in a race, rather than waiting until the final lap before making a move: “I am going to work so that it’s a pure guts race. In the end, if it is, I’m the only one that can win it”. Movies about Pre There are...

ABP Southampton Half Marathon

I didn’t run as much as I’d planned to in Japan. In fact, my running was limited to the running tour that we did in Tokyo at the very start of our trip. Since returning, I’ve struggled with jet lag and laryngitis, so I was a little apprehensive about doing Southampton Half Marathon. I did parkrun in Cornwall last weekend,...

Monday Morning Motivation – The Marathon

What persuades someone to take part in a marathon? Is it because people love running? Is it to show how talented you are? I would argue that for many people it’s about far more than that. To run 26.2 miles or 42.2km takes dedication and determination to succeed. It is a challenge and also an opportunity. The road to Sparta...

Penrose parkrun

Penrose parkrun #4 on 18th April was my first run since we got back from Japan. I was confident that I was feeling fit and healthy, even though I was fighting jet lag. I had looked at previous results and thought that I could do well. However, I was entirely unaware of just how tough the course would be.  ...

The impact of World War II on Japan – Hiroshima and Himeji

Last night’s sleep was a lot better, which was a relief. I went to bed quite early and wasn’t disturbed too much. I woke at 5:45 and decided that I might as well get up as that would give me an hour to get ready for our trip to Hiroshima and Himeji. Getting ready to visit Hiroshima and Himeji After...

Monday Morning Motivation – Who’s swimming this week?

How do you get into the pool? Are you ready to try something new? Pool-side confession I have to admit that I tend to climb down the steps or sit on the side and then get into the pool!

Takayama to Tsumago

Yet another early start today to ensure that we would have enough time to look around Tsumago. Despite going to bed at 10pm, I was exhausted by the time the alarm went off at 6am, as Stuart was coughing and snoring all night. Breakfast was a pot of yoghurt with fruit and a muffin that we bought in a convenience store last...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
