Monday Morning Motivation – The ballerina on the golden bicycle

Lilly Yokoi was an acrobat who specialised in performing on a golden bicycle. During her career, she toured around the world and appeared on the Ed Sullivan show three times. Yokoi did some stunts that definitely seemed before-their-time. These tricks included: a no-hands handlebar spin a no-hands wheelie a handstand over the handlebars Yokoi managed all of this in high-heeled...

First aquathlon of the year

Tonight’s excitement for the Smiths was an aquathlon at Lakeside. We both decided to do the sprint distance (750m swim; 5km run) and managed to get in the water before the start to acclimatise. Lack of time to acclimatise was something that I found difficult last year, but I think it was easier anyway tonight as the lake was quite...

In other news…

I have been so busy recently with work and training that I’ve not had as much any time for blogging? The new parkrun milestone t-shirts should be arriving soon. I’ve volunteered loads, so I’ll immediately be eligible for one of the purple ones: I’ve also managed to fit in a few parkruns recently, including my 150th: I’ve also entered the...

My longest ever (continuous) swim

I’ve been stepping up my swimming recently as it’s only 3 months until Scilly Swim Challenge, which is a bit terrifying. 10k is often described as the ‘marathon’ of swimming events, so I guess that makes the Scilly Swim Challenge an ultra… and I’m someone who hasn’t even managed a half marathon swim (5km). As analogies go, this makes it...

Monday Morning Motivation – Touch the sky with Alex Zanardi

Alessandro “Alex” Zanardi is an Italian racing driver and paracyclist. Zanardi won two CART championship titles in North America during the late 1990s. He also had a career as a Formula One racing driver. More recently, he has attracted widespread praise for his return to competition in the aftermath of a crash in 2001. It resulted in the amputation of...

Grand Shaftesbury Run and Tri weekend

On Friday 15th May, Stuart and I headed down to Wimborne St Giles in Dorset for the TryTri Grand Shaftesbury Run and Tri weekend. We left home a little late and knew that we would need to set up our tent before it got dark. Unfortunately, we had our first disaster whilst setting up our tent as one of the...

Busy weekend

Saturday morning started with a swim followed by parkrun: I also received an email confirming my free entry to Lisbon Rock’n’Roll Marathon. I’m sure it will be an amazing event, but I don’t want to do a marathon that I haven’t trained for and I don’t have enough time to train for it this year. I’ve also received all of...

May Day Triathlon

Last year, my first tri of the season was Good Fri Tri. We missed that because we were travelling to Japan this year. This means the May Day Tri was my first tri of the season. I like to be as organised and prepared as possible. On Saturday afternoon, Stu and I drove to Winchester, so that we were able...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
