Train like a (cherry) champ

In December, the lovely people at Gym Vit sent me Cherry Champ natural superfruit supplement. The product contains Montmorency cherry and beetroot, so I was excited to try it. The benefits of tart cherry juice for athletes There have been a number of studies that have demonstrated the benefits of Montmorency cherry juice for endurance athletes. The main outcomes of...

Friday Five – Five things I remember about PE at school

This week’s Friday Five is ‘5 things I remember about Physical Education classes at school’. 1. The PE kit I went to an independent girls’ school, so we had a truly hideous PE kit – yellow aertex t-shirts with brown PE knickers – urgh. To make matters worse, we had to store our PE kits in red drawstring bags that...

Monday Morning Motivation: Beryl Burton

Have you heard of Beryl Burton? Chances are unless you’re a cycling fanatic, you’ve never heard of her. Beryl Burton was born in Yorkshire in the late 1930s and despite serious health problems that led to her spending over a year in hospital, she went on to become a champion cyclist. In 1967, Burton set a 12-hour time trial record...

Illness stopped play :-(

After a great start to January, it didn’t take long for things to go downhill. On Wednesday lunchtime, my work colleague, Sarah, and I jogged down to Southampton Common where we met a friend from Tri Club, Rob. The plan was to do an interval session, which was just as well as Rob can run a 17:XX 5k! We headed...

Friday Five – 5 foods to avoid for a healthier and happier life

It’s the start of the year and if you made any New Year’s Resolutions, it’s likely that one of them related to weight loss. I couldn’t find any UK statistics, but data from the University of Scranton, published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology showed that ‘lose weight’ was the #1 new year’s resolution. For many people, this will mean...

Nuts about protein

Just before Christmas I was given the chance to try Purition. I decided that it wouldn’t be fair to try it at a time when my meals were a little chaotic, so I started trying it this week – my first week back at work. I’m back on track and planned out all of my meals for the week. I...

Back to work and back to training

So who was keen to go back to work today? My lounge feels so big now that the Christmas decorations have gone. The horrendous weather here means that I wasn’t looking forward to getting on my bike this morning. I spent yesterday afternoon out on my slippery flat roof with a broom and a trowel. I had to brush a...

Today’s video emphasises the importance of fresh air. “Are you feeling tired? Irritable? Stressed out?” Are you going outdoors to exercise today?

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
