Monday Morning Motivation – John Young

One of the most inspirational triathletes that I’ve read about recently is John Young who is a ‘little person’ (his words). Read more about John Young: Be the hammer – John Young’s blog If you want to find out about John’s latest adventures, check out his Facebook page. You can also read the official Ironman article about him: John Young...

Faster than Mo

On Saturday, we went to Penrose parkrun – Stuart, my mum, baby M and I. It was a bit grey and overcast, but surprisingly warm. Stuart and I had chosen to test our ‘new’ buggy. It’s an old Mountain Buggy Terrain. We’ve bought it to take on holiday with us so that if it gets broken, we won’t be upset....

What now?

So, although I’m not feeling like things have been going well this year, I’ve now done my ‘A’ races. This year has not been the year for me to do an Ironman (not least for financial reasons), but I have managed to do a 5km (3.1 miles) swim, a 100 mile (160km) bike ride and a marathon (42.2km/26.2 miles). Since...

Monday Morning Motivation – Drive progress

I really like Drive Progress. It is an Audi commercial that emphasises that men and women should be treated equally. However, it was deemed to be controversial when it was first screened. What do you think?

Monday Morning Motivation – Angela Shartel

I’m guessing that first thing in the morning probably isn’t when you have time to watch a 20-minute documentary. Please do yourself a favour, save this link and schedule time to watch this brilliant documentary about Angela Shartel this week. Ultra Angela tells the story of a woman who has battled depression and poor health to become an ultra runner....

Fear of failure at RideLondon-Surrey 100

I spent a long time dithering about whether I should take part in RideLondon-Surrey 100 this year. I got my place in 2016, but as I was pregnant, I did not feel that it would be advisable to take part in the event. (Physically, I was fit enough, but I was too wary of being knocked off my bike). That...

parkrun Tourism

As we were staying with my Aunt in Dorking, Stuart and I decided to do a bit of parkrun tourism. My mum was also with us. She had packed her shoes and barcode, so she was also ready to take part. We had a quick look at the parkrun map and decided to visit Reigate Priory parkrun as that was...

Monday Morning Motivation: Julián Molina Shreds Harder Than You

After a collision with one of the local buses when he was younger, Julián Molina was left with a completely destroyed foot. Later his foot became infected with gangrene, traumatically resulting in the amputation of his entire leg. Most would quit here, but not Julián. Despite his situation, the man has only looked forward and up. Two wheels have been...

Fear of Thunder

Every year, we travel up to Derbyshire for Thunder Run. It is a 24-hour race that involves doing 10km cross country laps. Above all, it’s a really fun and sociable event. Setting up camp We usually travel up on Thursday and stay in a nearby hotel overnight, so that we can set up camp first thing on Friday morning. This...

Monday Morning Motivation: Why not now?

I love this video about an amazing woman who took up swimming as an adult – please do spend 3 minutes watching it. If you’d like to read more, have a look at this article: Doctor’s weight-loss order pushed her into the pool; now she’s a champ.

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
