Monday Morning Motivation – Drive progress

I really like Drive Progress. It is an Audi commercial that emphasises that men and women should be treated equally. However, it was deemed to be controversial when it was first screened.

It is controversial. A few points. 1. Audi’s pay of women is no different that the Obama Administration or the Hillary Clinton campaign (oh, and let’s not forget Elizabeth Warren’s Senatorial campaign). Roughly 75 cents on the dollar.
2. Audi still pays women just as much as men when actual job descriptions are contrasted properly. Therefore the argument is silly to begin with.
3. The reason for the disparity is that women tend to take jobs that pay less to accommodate lifestyle choices.
4. In many companies, when careers are contrasted “apples to apples”, women make more. Should their salaries be adjusted down in those cases? I think not. I believe in people being paid what they’re worth. Like most sane people.
5. Finally, drive progress is really a political argument meant to make one side appear less desirable and shut down conversation with ignorance. It is meant to keep one segment of the population voting the way they normally do. As a commercial. It is simply a way to make Audi attractive to women.
If Audi were truly concerned with what is commonly (and incorrectly) called “equal pay”, don’t you think leveling the playing field would be to sell an Audi to women at 75 cents on the dollar? Of course it would, but don’t hold your breath, because monkeys will fly out of my butt before that happens.
Tamsyn I get your point.
