Run Fest Run – a new UK running festival

I read about RunFestRun, a new UK running festival a while ago and thought it sounded great, but the cost of tickets and my lack of running fitness meant that I didn’t expect to take part. However, just over a week ago, someone shared a discount code with me that reduced the cost of a family ticket from £350 to...

Something had to change

I’ve been feeling down for months because I’ve not been exercising enough and I’ve been putting on weight. Eventually, something had to change. My schedule can’t go back to the way it used to be where I could train whenever I liked around my work hours. Stuart and I had a discussion and agreed that we would each take two...

Trying out Nuu-Muu at Southampton parkrun

Last Saturday was another parkrun at Southampton for me. It was also a great opportunity to try out an interesting product that I’ve been sent – a Nuu-Muu (or more precisely, a Ruu-Muu). What is a Nuu-Muu? I was recently contacted by Carolyn from Nuu-Muu to ask whether I’d like to try their product. I was completely intrigued as I’d...

Monday Morning Motivation: UCLA Gymnastics

This week’s Monday Morning Motivation is courtesy of UCLA Gymnastics. In particular, I’m inspired by Katelyn Ohashi. She completed her final competitive routine for the team last month. Gymnastics has a special place in my heart. I took it up at 20 and trained for over a decade, only giving up when my workload as a teacher became too much....

Monday Morning Motivation: Blood Road

Blood Road follows the journey of ultra-endurance mountain bike athlete Rebecca Rusch and her Vietnamese riding partner, Huyen Nguyen, as they pedal 1,200 miles along the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail through the dense jungles of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Their goal: to reach the site where Rebecca’s father, a U.S. Air Force pilot, was shot down in Laos more...

Monday Morning Motivation: Latoya Shauntay Snell

I first read about Latoya Shauntay Snell in 2018. Someone had shared a photo of her running in a Facebook group. My first thought was to wonder where she had got her leggings from, so I did a bit of Googling and ended up on her Instagram page. Then I wanted to find out more about her and did some...

A weekend of running in Southampton

Southampton parkrun We were finally back in Southampton for a parkrun, which was great. I love visiting new events, but I also like seeing my friends at Southampton. It was my turn to run with M in her buggy. I’d not run far when I saw my friend and former colleague, Lorrayne. We settled into a comfortable rhythm and completed...

Fit and healthy break in Bournemouth

I’ve now booked tickets for my big holiday of the year (to Australia for my brother’s wedding), but that’s a long way off, so I’m trying to plan lots of mini breaks and excursions. My first weekend adventure was with my friend Inez. We went to Bournemouth which has a wide range of shops, activities, restaurants and hotels to suit...

Monday Morning Motivation: Live Like Line

I watched The Miracle Season on Netflix and although it’s predictable in places, I also found it moving as I knew it was based on a true story. I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler to say that the eponymous character, Line, passes away not long into the film. Instead the narrative focuses on what her friends and...

Monday Morning Motivation: Moon Fahel

As we’re in peak marathon season, this week’s inspiration is courtesy of an 85-year-old runner: Moon Fahel. Moon joined a gym after retiring at 66. Whilst there he would try anything that sounded like fun, including Zumba and martial arts. Moon was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer when he started running just over 6 years ago. Since then he has...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
