Up and… walking

It’s been a while since I posted, and for good reason. Unfortunately, things didn’t go quite to plan, so my baby was born nearly two weeks late via emergency caesarean. She’s thriving, but I’ve had some ups and downs and was readmitted to the hospital. Hopefully, that’s behind us now and we can start moving forward. Planning for when I...

Monday Morning Motivation – Labels against women

Continuing with my feminist inspiration on a Monday morning, I thought I’d share this Filipino commercial (Labels against women) for Pantene shampoo. It shows some of the dichotomies that women face. We’re encouraged to be more ‘masculine’ to succeed in a man’s world but then are berated for that behaviour. Common labels that we hear A man who states his opinions...

Monday Morning Motivation – Girls Can

I like Girls Can Covergirl advert about female empowerment and breaking barriers. Featuring a host of stars who’ve been trail-blazers in their respective fields, I find this advert inspirational. Ellen DeGeneres: Girls can’t. Sometimes you hear it, but more often, you feel it. Pink: Girls can’t rock. Katy Perry: Girls can’t be strong. Natalie Wiebe: Girls can’t check. Ellen DeGeneres:...

Monday Morning Motivation – If at first you don’t succeed

“If at first you don’t succeed…” come up with a new plan! It’s important to have fun when you’re working out, but I also believe in the importance of determination and perseverance.

Monday Morning Motivation – Run forever

In 2016, the inspirational Nicky Spinks made fell running history by becoming the fastest person to run a Double Bob Graham Round. The 49-year-old cancer-survivor marked 10 years post-diagnosis by running the 132-mile Lake District route. It includes around 54,000ft of ascent. Nicky did it in a time of 45 hours and 30 minutes. She took over an hour off...

Still waiting

Well, I’m still waiting for Mini-Me to arrive, but she seems to be as stubborn as Stuart/determined as me! I’ve eaten plenty of spicy food, but there’s a limit to how much curry/fajitas/chilli I can take! I’ve also eaten a lot of fresh pineapple, but apparently pregnant women need to eat at least 7 for the bromelain to have any...

Monday Morning Motivation – Limitless passion

This week’s motivation is Tony Robbins talking about ‘limitless passion’. My mom wanted me to be a truck driver because that would mean I would make $24 000 a year if I went to truck masters and that’d be twice what my father made. And she thought that would happen, but something inside of me said, “I don’t want to...

Monday Morning Motivation – Meet Non Stanford’s Toughest Opponent

Triathlon is one of the most physically demanding sports in the world. Mastering three disciplines simultaneously puts an immense amount of pressure on an athlete’s body. After a string of injuries forced Non Stanford to take a break from her sport in 2008, it was the mental strain of starting all over again that challenged her the most. It was...

Last parkrun of 2016?

It’s been yet another busy week, where I’ve mostly had to be at home, so I’ve tried to make the most of the dry days and have spent some time in my garden. I raked up all of the leaves and filled my compost bin as well as a garden waste wheelie bin. I love living in an area with...

Fast Fuel – eating for success… and a giveaway

Even if you’ve not been following my blog for long, you’ll know that nutrition is important to me. I’ve successfully managed to lose weight by eating a healthy balanced diet. I have only put on 7-8lbs by Week 39 of pregnancy by eating well, so I’m always interested in learning more about nutrition. Who is Renee McGregor As we saw...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
