Swimathon 2019 – Enjoy the good days!

I was so excited to be invited back as a Swimathon Ambassador for 2019. At some point this winter, I had already decided to enter Swimathon. I enjoyed it so much for the last couple of years and feel that it gives me a great goal to aim for at the start of the year. (Moreover, I know there are...

Two runs in two days

My first week back at work was always going to be tough, but it hit me harder than expected. I had to give a couple of high-profile presentations whilst preparing for a conference presentation next week. At the same time, I was trying to put the finishing touches to an online course about the history of money. I did my...

Iron Girl – thanks to Ironman for doing the right thing

On Thursday, Ironman England posted an announcement on Facebook about the introduction of an Iron Girl race in Bolton: It instantly garnered a lot of attention. When I last looked there were approximately: There were some comments in support of the event by people who thought it was fine. These were mostly men, but there were also some women. Just...

Monday Morning Motivation: 95-year-old swimmer, Willard Lamb

This week’s Monday Morning Motivation is a 95-year-old swimmer, Willard ‘Wink’ Lamb. Many people think that sports and fitness are for young people and that they are too old to start a new exercise regime. That’s just not true! There may be some sports that might not suit your current fitness level. However, Swimming or other pool-based exercise types (such...

Did it! My first parkrun of 2019.

I’ve seen a lot of posts on social media about people taking part in RED January whereby they take part in exercise every day to improve their mental health (amongst other benefits). I would have been interested in taking part, but I’ve really not been well enough to exercise so far in January (and haven’t even managed to walk 5000...

Funnel managing

I’ve been unwell since 22nd December. I was disappointed not to be able to take part in parkrun on New Year’s Day, nor the first ordinary parkrun of the year on 5th January. Stuart was feeling fine. We agreed that we would go to parkrun together and he would run with M whilst I helped out. I know it’s best...

Monday Morning Motivation: The why

Are you struggling to get up and out of the door to run? Ask yourself why you’re doing it (or not). This week’s Monday Morning Motivation comes from Billy Yang who posed the question: Why do we run 100 miles? It’s a question I get from friends and acquaintances quite often. And in the lower moments during these ultramarathon events if I’m...

End of year parkruns

As usual, the end of the year came around all too soon. It was filled with lots of events and family meet ups, so I had barely any time to blog. Volunteering at Southampton parkrun on 24/11/18 Stuart and I were Run Directors at Southampton parkrun on 24th November. It turned out to be a very wet run. After the...

Hi, I'm Tamsyn!

Triathlete | Blogger | Running Coach & Fitness Instructor

As an overweight couch potato, I decided to turn my life around. I lost over 33lbs/15kg and now love keeping fit and healthy. In February 2013, I set myself a challenge to complete an iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile/3.8k swim; 112 mile/180k bike; 26.2 mile/42.2k run).

Since starting my triathlon journey, I’ve:

  • learnt to swim and completed a 17.5km sea swim
  • bought my first road bike and cycled across Japan
  • run six marathons.
  • had a baby.

  • I’ve not completed an Ironman yet… but I’m getting there.
