Fitness is a key part of my life. When I was young, I loved dancing – ballet, tap and modern. At university, I transferred my allegiance to gymnastics. I was flexible but didn’t have the nerve to do a lot of the moves (and I was also too big to be a gymnast).

Just before I turned 30, I decided to turn my life around, so I took up karate and lost a lot of weight. The camaraderie of karate classes meant a lot to me and I found that keeping fit in a group was easy. I also took part in a lot of lunchtime fitness classes at work.

I found that I enjoyed being able to keep up with my husband. Also, the mental health benefits of exercising are undeniable.

I started running and then discovered parkrun. That was the gateway drug that enabled me to join a running club: Lordshill Road Runners. I then discovered the world of multisport and decided to train for triathlons, so I joined Southampton Tri Club.

Whilst a member of Lordshill Road Runners, I became a Leader in Running Fitness and then a Coach.

Whilst on maternity leave, I decided to make more changes to my life, so I completed a qualification to be a fitness instructor.
