#TWIETing again and a training ride

It’s been a while since I last TWIET ed (Tweet What I Eat Tuesday), but I thought that returning to it might help to get my eating back on track. Quite a few people have recommended using MyFitnessPal to me, but it’s refusing to log me in on my phone at the moment, and I don’t have enough free time to sort it out… maybe this weekend!

Overall, it doesn’t look like my food intake was too bad today. I guess that the ShotBloks might have been unnecessary, but I found them in my bike bag when I was starting to feel peckish!

Do you use any apps to help track your food intake?

I went to Weight Watchers this evening. I’m no longer paying for it, but my membership doesn’t expire until towards the end of the month, so I figured that I might as well go along. The good news was that I haven’t put on any weight since before I went on holiday. The bad news is that I’m still fat! In my dreams, I’d like to lose 2 stone (28lbs) before doing Challenge Weymouth. In reality, 24lbs is the most I could hope to lose and 16lbs is an even more realistic goal. I just hope that I can maintain my motivation. It’s a lot easier to exercise when I weigh less.

This evening, I had to do a ‘hilly loop session’. I needed to find a hill that would take 2-3 minutes to complete, but I went to the wrong location. The hill I found took me 6 minutes to complete. It wasn’t very steep, but as I’m still really nervous about cycling downhill, it was quite good for me.

The really exciting part about tonight was that I got to ride my new ‘pink peacock’ SOAS tri kit. I had hoped that I would receive it as a Christmas present, so I’m really happy that I now own. I’m delighted to report that it’s just as comfortable as my team kit 😀

  1. Tamsyn, you are not fat and believe me, MyFitnessPal will help you get down to the weight you’re hoping for. I’ve lost over 16lbs in under 2 months without trying too hard thanks to MFP and without lots of exercise.

    • Thanks, James. I’ve persevered with MFP and have now managed to log in on my phone… but to be honest, I never managed to use the WeightWatchers app on my phone as I got frustrated with having to look everything up. The good news is that it says “If every day were like today… You;d weigh 9st, 6lbs in 5 weeks”… I’m not entirely convinced a 23lb weight loss in 5 weeks would be healthy!!! The exercise calories seem a little sketchy in my opinion!

      • Once you start to choose foods, it gets easier and easier every day to the point that it remembers what food you have together. You can also create meals which makes it even easier. I completely agree about calories from exercise and I overwrite the app’s suggestion with what Garmin tells me. In terms of the prediction, it’s based on BMR but only based on the calories consumed/burned for the day so if you’re a long way under your daily goal, it’ll give you an unrealistic prediction. I used the WW app and various other apps based on WW points or whatever they use now and it wasn’t anywhere near as good as MFP.

        • I’ve now found the barcode scanner bit on my phone, which has made it a bit easier… and I was able to add the same things for lunch today as what I had yesterday, but why are there 6 million variants on Granny Smith apples. I appreciate they can be different sizes, but surely buying it from Lidl or Waitrose should make no difference!!!

          • The problem is that people add their own food rather than reuse what’s there. It will always suggest the variant you’ve chosen before though.

  2. I agree… you are not fat! You look great in your kit. You are strong and swimbikerun all day long! I recently started tracking via the TwoGrand app. Similar to instagam… just snap a pic and log it!

    • Thank, Erin. I think you mentioned TwoGrand on your blog the other day and I meant to look it up, but forgot. It’s now installed on my phone, so I’ll try it out 🙂

    • I think it might take me a bit of practice to get used to it, but it’s getting easier for me to use. I’m also a bit bemused by the calories it thinks I might be burning whilst exercising – they’re vastly differnt from what my Garmin says, so I don’t know whether to just ignore the exercise part. What do you do?

I'd love to hear your thoughts...
