MoRun in Southampton + 21 other locations in the British Isles
I was really excited to learn that a MoRun will be taking place in Southampton this year. Every year Southampton hosts Race for Life and various other runs to raise awareness of women’s cancers, but there are few events to raise awareness and valuable funds to support men’s health. Prostate cancer and testicular cancer affect many men, but they aren’t spoken about widely. There isn’t a recognised ‘ribbon campaign’ to help break the silence. Alongside this, mental health issues are stigmatised and many men are reluctant to speak out about their problems, so there is a greater likelihood that they will commit suicide.
Previously, I’ve done my best to get on board with Movember, but unlike my brother, I’ve failed to grow a mo in the past.
So, although I can’t grow a mo, I can get on board with running (or jogging, or walking!)
What is Movember?
Throughout November men are sponsored to grow amazing moustaches to raise money for the Movember Foundation (and awareness of men’s health issues). Growing a mo isn’t an option for everyone, so it’s now possible to take part in a Mo Running event.
There will be Mo Running events in 22 different locations across the UK and Ireland. There are also options for the whole family – you can walk/jog/run 5k or 10k and children can take part in a Mini MoRun (1.5km). It’s possible to take part with a buggy, but I’ve decided to run without M for a change. She’ll be happy watching everyone else taking part (and will probably be desperate to join the over 3s who are doing the Mini MoRun!)
The good news
There will be a MoRun in Southampton on Sunday 18th November. You don’t have to be as fast as Mo to take part.
The even better news… I can offer you a 10% discount!

Will you be taking part in a Mo Run? Have you ever grown a mo for Movember?
