Friday Five: 5 podcasts that I listen to

5 podcasts that I listen to

Some people like listening to music whilst they’re running, but I tend to run with friends, so it would be antisocial to have headphones on. However, on Fridays, I have the day off, so I listen to podcasts whilst I catch up on housework and prepare food. These 5 podcasts are the running/triathlon ones I listen to most often:

With Me Now

With Me Now podcast logo

With Me Now is a show about parkrun passion by passionate parkunners. Nicola Forwood and Danny Norman return from a 3-year hiatus of parkrun podcasting to bring home the going’s on from around parkrunworld. From touring to volunteering and everything inbetween.

Episodes of With Me Now are quite long and tend to be aimed at experienced and enthusiastic parkrunners. Before hosting With Me Now, Nicola and Danny hosted The parkrun Show.

Free Weekly Timed

Hosted by Vassos Alexander (the sports bloke off the Chris Evans Breakfast Show) and Louise Ayling (parkrun addict and uber-tourist) each week we aim to bring you news from parkrun around the world; interviews with special guests; hints, tips and inspiration – all in an average parkrun finish time of (approximately) 29 mins!

I like the interviews with a wide range of people on Free Weekly Timed. Sometimes it is exasperating that Vassos is not a parkrun veteran, but he is a professional broadcaster, so his interviews always go well. Also, as this podcast is quite short, it’s easy to listen to it when commuting in the car.

Marathon Talk

Presented by Martin Yelling and Tom Williams Marathon Talk is the UK’s number one running podcast. Released for free every week the show has had almost 5million downloads with listeners across the world. The show is available on iTunes and Spotify. Marathon Talk has established a trusted, credible and respected voice within the running community and was shortlisted as one of the Mixcloud 2016 industry Online Radio Awards.

I first started listening to Marathon Talk quite a few years ago – it was the first podcast that I listened to. There’s always a great mix of news and information and again, there are in-depth interviews with interesting runners. The ‘Tony’s Trials’ section always makes me smile.

IMTalk

Since 2006 IMTalk has been the weekly Ironman fix for thousands of athletes from all around the world! Bevan James Eyles and ‘Coach’ John Newsom cover the latest news, reviews and tips for Ironman Triathlon. If you love Ironman, you’ll love this podcast! It will improve your training and racing.

IMTalk is a great way to hear the latest news when it comes to long course triathlon. However, I do find advertising/references to sponsors slightly annoying.

parkrun adventurers

parkrun Adventurers

Join parkrun adventurers Mel and Scott as they seek free, weekly, timed, 5km parkrun adventures across the country. Bringing you all the fun and latest news from the parkrun community as they navigate the Australian landscape, this is a parkrun adventure you won’t want to miss.

I find it interesting to learn about parkrun in Australia as the courses are often significantly different from those in the UK and there are also other differences (such as the early start times). Given the distances between many parkruns in Australia, parkrun tourists there are very dedicated.

Do you listen to any sports-related podcasts? What would you recommend?

I'd love to hear your thoughts...
